SYCAMORE, ILL. – IDEAL Industries, Inc. recognizes a century of partnership with and commitment to its community headquarters (1924-2024) by donating 6.28 acres of open land in the Prairie Business Park to the city of Sycamore. The land will be used for a new fire station, centrally located for quicker response to emergency calls.
On Tuesday, January 16 Sycamore City Council unanimously voted to pass a resolution to accept the gift of land from IDEAL. With the approved grant, the city plans to break ground to build a new fire station in early 2025. The location of the land will ensure that seventy-four percent of the calls received by the fire department can be reached within four to six minutes, which will help to protect lives of Sycamore residents. The Sycamore Fire Department provides 24-hour emergency response to approximately 20,000 people and responded to 2,924 incidents in 2022.
“We’re so thankful for the generosity of IDEAL,” said Fire Chief Bart Gilmore. “In short, this grant will help save lives in Sycamore. With most of our calls being medical-related calls within 4-6 minutes of the land, time is everything in ensuring we can do everything we can to protect the community.”
Sycamore City Manager Michael Hall shared a similar sentiment to Fire Chief Gilmore. “A donation of this size from IDEAL Industries really just reinforces the role they’ve played in the community over the years. We’re so grateful to have IDEAL in the community – providing jobs, supporting the local economy – and giving back to local residents.”
At the City Council meeting, IDEAL Foundation Board Chair Nicole Juday announced that the IDEAL Foundation is undertaking an additional project to create a walking/biking path and native plant ecosystem around a large pond at the intersection of Borden Avenue and Prairie Drive in Sycamore. The first phase will be completed later in 2024. She stated, “This project is a demonstration of IDEAL’s commitment to Sycamore for the next century. We hope that this beautiful, publicly- accessible recreation space will enhance quality of life for those who live and work in this wonderful community.
